Raymond Martin Lentz

U.S. Veteran

Raymond Martin Lentz, 85, of Beulah, died Thursday, February 9, 2012, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born September 12, 1926, in Center Line, the son of Paul and Clara (Martin) Lentz.

Raymond was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps, and he served his country honorably during World War II as a Private First Class. Raymond furthered his education at Bob Jones University and at Michigan State University. He worked as an elementary school teacher in the Grand Rapids area.

Raymond was a member of Eden Bible Church, in Beulah, and Gideons International. His faith played an important role in his life. He served his community as a lay minister, and he brought Christianity to his fellow neighbors, including migrant workers and the elderly. Raymond was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and shared his hunting tales with his friends and family. Most of all, Raymond loved to serve the Lord and spend time with his family.

In 1955, in Frankfort, Raymond married Bertha Marie Harris who survives him. He is also survived by: 3 children, Lynn (Bronson) Barnes of Sparta, Brad Lentz of Beulah, and Kurt Lentz of Lyons, Indiana; 2 granddaughters, Rory Barnes of Sparta and Paige Barnes of Sparta; and 4 siblings, Harry, Larry, Vena, and his twin brother, Gerald.

Raymond was preceded in death by: his parents; and 4 brothers, Donald, Robert, Paul, and Kenneth.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 13, 2012, at Eden Bible Church, in Beulah, with Pastor Dan Ingersoll officiating. Interment will take place in the Benzonia Township Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International.
